Committee approves 2026–27 calendar, surplus vehicle and consent donations

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Dennis‑Yarmouth Regional School Committee took three formal actions by voice vote.
Calendar approval: Ms. Bemis moved that the committee approve the 2026–27 district calendar "as presented." The superintendent explained two notable calendar changes: the last day will be set to the 180th instructional day (rather than referencing a higher numbered day and subtracting) and half‑days for parent conferences will be limited to kindergarten through grade 7. The motion was seconded, the chair called for "all those in favor," members responded "Aye" and the calendar passed.
Surplus vehicle: The committee declared a 2016 Chevrolet Express small school bus (reported at about 160,000 miles) surplus following a motion to do so. The motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Consent agenda and donations: The committee approved the consent agenda, which included acceptance of school‑year donations: nearly $3,900 to the high school from the Cape Cod Foundation (Dolphin Dash fund closeout) to support athletics and band user fees and roughly $1,300 from the sailing booster club to support the sailing team. The chair recorded the motion, the body voted by voice and the motion passed.
Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was made and seconded; a voice vote carried and the meeting closed.
