District says lower DYMS field nearly finished; upper field expected by month’s end

The district provided an update on DYMS/DYI field construction during the Sept. 8 meeting, reporting progress but noting delays caused by extra testing and materials replacement.
Dr. Smith said the project "hit a few delays" after quality‑control testing was added to prevent a repeat of earlier failures. He told the committee the lower field "should be all buttoned up" and that the upper field was on schedule to be completed at the end of the month, allowing middle school athletics to return to the lower field once construction fencing is repositioned.
To maintain programming, the district said it has coordinated schedules so the middle school can use a nearby Station Ave field as a secondary playing area and has planned recess and phys ed logistics accordingly. Construction leaders have already begun subgrading and staging equipment on site; Dr. Smith said much of the play‑structure equipment is already on site behind the maintenance yard.
The superintendent cautioned that the poured‑in‑place material requires consecutive dry days and proper temperature conditions, so the project’s completion timeline depends on weather; he said the team expects the project to be done prior to Thanksgiving break if conditions hold.
The committee will continue biweekly progress meetings and staff said they will keep the committee informed of schedule changes and handover timing for school athletics.
