Board approves new executive director of administrative services, extends interim appointment

The Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools board accepted Superintendent Dr. Thomas’ recommendation to hire Robert Cothern as the district's executive director of administrative services and approved an extension of the interim appointment of Michael Knutson through Aug. 15.
Dr. Thomas introduced Cothern, who previously served 14 years with Rochester Public Schools. Cothern told the board he was "extremely excited, extremely blessed, to be here and can't wait to be a Laker." The board moved and approved the appointment by a unanimous 6–0 roll-call vote.
The board also approved a separate motion to extend Knutson's interim appointment so he may continue in the role through Aug. 15 while contract negotiations continue; that motion also passed 6–0. Dr. Thomas described the extension as necessary to bridge transition timing and negotiations.
Both actions were routine personnel votes taken during the meeting; no salary or contract terms were discussed on the record at the session.
