The Marblehead School Committee voted to approve the formation of a high‑school performing‑arts trip to New York City scheduled for Jan. 16–17, 2026.
Administrators described the itinerary: a backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall, a 60‑minute question‑and‑answer session with industry professionals, attendance at two Broadway productions and dinner at a performance‑themed restaurant. The trip is open to students who participate in performing ensembles, drama club or daytime music classes; the plan calls for quad occupancy in hotel rooms and a planned chaperone ratio of roughly 10:1 (about five chaperones for 50 students). The district will use travel company Bob Rogers to arrange transportation and standard trip insurance is offered to families on an opt‑in basis.
A motion to approve forming the arts field trip was made, seconded and recorded as passing. Committee members asked about rooming plans, chaperone ratios and insurance; the presenting staff said teachers would consider student preferences for roommates and that trip insurance would be available through the travel vendor.
The committee did not discuss funding beyond general trip costs, which staff described as typical for an overnight New York trip. The motion passed without recorded dissent.
