Subgroup seeks more data before recommending allied‑health and graduate nursing weight changes

Jenny Gomez Leon, lead for charge 2a, told the committee the subgroup has not yet convened formally but has gathered some initial data from coordinating board staff. She asked for volunteers from institutions that previously participated in cost studies — including Houston, Texas Tech Health Science Center, and UTMB — to expand the sample beyond the two campuses currently available.
Jenny said last year’s work produced estimates indicating an approximate 20% increase for allied health weights and about a 30% increase for graduate nursing weights, but she emphasized those figures require additional semester‑credit‑hour costing data before the subgroup can make a firm recommendation. "I think as we looked at this last year, we had enough data to demonstrate, about a 20% and a 30% increase to the weights for the allied health and nursing programs, respectively," she said.
Committee members volunteered to share campus data and staff agreed to support a small‑group onboarding meeting to keep the membership under the seven‑member threshold for deliberations. The subgroup will continue data collection and aims to report back at the December meeting.
