Delta County was approached by a public-television program seeking to produce a short promotional segment about the county that would require county financial participation. Administration said the program (Viewpoint) charges for community promotion slots to highlight economic development and tourism assets. One commissioner estimated a potential county cost in the $10,000–$20,000 range and urged caution given no prior planning or partner commitments.
The board discussed whether departments such as parks or the airport — which have marketing budgets — might contribute and whether partners identified by an outside advocate (Mr. Legault) could reduce the county’s share. Several commissioners said they were uncomfortable committing funds without finance review and partner commitments.
A motion to send the matter to the finance committee for review and possible partner outreach passed by voice vote. Finance will evaluate budget availability, potential departmental contributions and partner funding before bringing a recommendation back to the board.
