Resident urges IDOT action and calls for home-inspection follow-up in Pingree Grove

At the Nov. 3 meeting, resident Howard Kneiser asked trustees for guidance on two safety concerns: a poorly marked and intermittently lit stretch of Illinois Route 72 near the village's welcome sign, and what he described as inadequate residential footings at a new home in Cambridge Lakes North.
"When you drive down 72 between Rheinking and Big Timber...for about 450 yards, you've got brightly painted median lines. ...and then you get about from here to where the Pingree Grove sign is...the median lines are poorly painted," Kneiser said, calling out missing median lighting and increased traffic tied to new housing. He asked who is responsible for that section of road; staff said that segment falls under the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and that village staff would reach out to IDOT about repainting and lighting.
Kneiser also said a neighbor posted a photo showing a residential concrete footing that "didn't seem to be dug deep enough" and asked who inspects footings in Cambridge Lakes North. Staff replied the village uses a building consultant to inspect footings and asked Kneiser to email the photos and documentation so staff could follow up with the developer and the inspector.
Staff committed to follow up with IDOT on the Route 72 issues and to review the footing photos with the village's building consultant and developer representatives.
