Board signs plan sheet so DOT may let Tamarac Road resurfacing project
Summary
Supervisors authorized signing the final plan sheet for an HMA hot-in-place recycling project and a 3-inch overlay on Tamarac Road, a just-under-14-mile stretch; county staff said the DOT letting is scheduled for Feb. 17 and the work will keep existing 24-foot roadway width.
The Pottawattamie County Board authorized county staff to sign the final plan sheet for Project FM CO78(213)-50-25-78: HMA hot-in-place recycling and a 3-inch overlay on Tamarac Road from the railroad to Highway 59.
County road staff described the construction sequence as recycling the existing pavement in place and then placing a 3-inch overlay, noting the approach restores the roadway base and preserves the current 24-foot width (12-foot lanes). Staff said the project is just under 14 miles and is part of the county’s five‑year plan; the DOT letting deadline requires the plan set be signed to meet a February 17 letting date.
Supervisors moved and seconded authorization for the chair to sign the plan sheet; the motion passed unanimously on roll call. Staff will deliver the signed plan set to the DOT and circulate the plan set to supervisors on request.
What it means: Letting the project through the DOT will allow contractors to bid; county staff said there is a potential cost savings from recycling materials in place rather than hauling removed pavement.
