Augusta Commission approves a series of settlements after closed session

The Augusta City Commission approved multiple settlement agreements and a contingency payment following a closed executive session called to discuss pending litigation, real estate and personnel matters.

Attorney Turner Plunkett asked the commission to approve a package of settlements arising from various case numbers. The commission voted to approve a $15,000 settlement for the workers’ compensation claim of Jameichael Doe and a $37,500 settlement for a claim by Tyreka James. The body also approved settlements of $15,000 for Kathleen Brown, $20,000 for Andre Johnson and $50,000 for Noah Allen. Commissioners approved a $90,000 settlement for Tara Johnson and a $70,000 pre‑litigation settlement for Ava Green. The commission also authorized payment of up to $32,237.32 from contingency funds for rental assistance previously approved by the Housing & Community Development department.

The motions were moved and seconded formally on the record and the clerk recorded the votes as carried; several votes were noted with Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Guilfoyle and Commissioner Don Clark voting present while Commissioner Pulliam was absent for several items. Attorney Plunkett closed the list of motions by saying they concluded the motions arising from the executive session.

These approvals do not contain findings on fault; they reflect negotiated resolutions or pre‑litigation settlements recommended by the law department. The clerk recorded the motions and the commission moved on to public committee business immediately after the votes.

What comes next: the settlements will be processed per administrative procedure and any vendor or payment records will be handled by the city’s finance and legal offices.
