Chambers County Commissioners Court voted Sept. 23 to set the 2025 property tax rate at 0.439746 per $100 of assessed value.
The court’s presiding officer moved to adopt the rate “of 0.439746, which is effectively a 6% increase in the tax rate,” and the motion was seconded and carried after brief discussion of revenue implications. County staff explained the rate is slightly above the no-new-revenue rate but remains below the voter-approval rate. “The rate is going down,” a staff member said, while noting the adopted figure funds county operations and planned capital projects.
County staff had opened the required public hearing earlier in the meeting and provided comparisons to the no-new-revenue and voter-approval benchmarks. Commissioners emphasized the rate will support projects already underway and budgeted for the coming fiscal year.
The court paired the tax-rate decision with adoption of the 2025–26 budget during the same session. No roll-call vote tally with individual commissioner names was recorded in the public transcript; the clerk announced the motion carried.
