The Chambers County Commission Court agreed on Oct. 14 to pursue a sponsorship with the Chambers County Children’s Museum to support a Farming Education Center that highlights the county’s agricultural and ranching history.
Lauren Sam presented the proposal, asking the court to sponsor the exhibit at $10,000 per year for a three‑year contract and suggested hotel occupancy (HOT) funds as the source. Commissioners and museum supporters described plans for historical displays, photographs of early rice and cattle farming, interactive elements and a planned 13‑foot mounted alligator as a centerpiece.
Members agreed the exhibit would be valuable to children and compatible with the county’s tourism and education goals. Staff said they will coordinate with museum leadership and church or community volunteers to assemble historical materials; the county indicated it will discuss partnership details and expectations, including potential in‑kind or monetary contributions to local events.
The court expressed support and asked staff to follow up on contract and renewal options if the county decides to continue sponsorship after the initial three‑year period.
