Saco council approves Pepperell Park ad hoc redesign committee, with sunset clause

The Saco City Council voted 6-0 on Aug. 11 to create a nine-member Pepperell Park ad hoc redesign committee charged with delivering a final design and budget for council approval.
Councilor Hewitt described the parks history and said the Parks & Recreation director requested the committee be made up of the mayor, a council member, a representative from the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, one Conservation Committee representative and five at-large Saco residents appointed by the mayor. "By creating this committee, we can bring together community voices, experts, and city staff to design a park that honors its history while serving today's needs," said Angie Presby, who spoke in support during public comment.
Councilor Berman said hes supportive of the committee but stressed that the council has not yet approved a budget or formally dedicated land for the park; those determinations will be part of the committees work. The committee proposal includes a sunset clause: once the committee approves a final design, it will no longer exist.
The motion passed 6-0 on a roll-call vote. The committee will solicit volunteers through sacomaine.org/advisory-bodies and return a recommended design and budget to the council for subsequent action.
