Saco honors Thornton Academy state champions and awards heroism plaque to teen who rescued four from house fire

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Saco City Council honored Thornton Academys 2025 state-champion boys lacrosse team and presented a citizen-hero award to Tyler Johnson for entering a burning house on July 29 and rescuing two children, their grandfather and the family dog.
Mayor MacPhail opened the Aug. 11 Saco City Council meeting by recognizing the Thornton Academy Golden Trojans for winning the 2025 boys state lacrosse championship. The mayor read the roster, noted that Thornton ended Falmouths 28-game winning streak in the final and cited two players named to the Portland Press Herald all-state team.
