Howard County approves $77,000 skid steer and routine maintenance purchases

Howard County commissioners on Nov. 11 approved several maintenance and equipment purchases the highway and maintenance departments said were planned and budgeted.
Amber Toll of the highway department asked the board to purchase a 2025 New Holland C337 skid steer from New Holland in Greentown for $77,000, plus a 3-in-1 bucket for $6,000 and a rotary pickup broom/sweeper for $10,300. "The skid steer is from New Holland in Greentown, and it is a price of $77,000," Toll said, adding the department had leased different models for two years to determine the right size.
Maintenance supervisor Bill Stone reported he purchased a sidewalk saw for $9,181.30 and a full semi load of salt to reduce unit cost. Stone also asked for authority to pay up to $5,635 for cleaning 15 HVAC coils after nearby masonry work deposited concrete dust on the coils. "They charged me $5,635 to clean 15 units," Stone said; the board approved payment not to exceed that amount.
Items were funded from departmental equipment and capital accounts and approved by voice votes. Commissioners also approved routine payroll and claims later in the meeting.
