Council accepts $1.75 million Boulder County funding to preserve two affordable homes through regional program

The Lafayette City Council approved Resolution 2025‑50 on Sept. 2 authorizing the city manager to accept $1,750,000 from Boulder County’s Affordable and Attainable Housing Tax to preserve two homes in Lafayette.
Phil Kleisler of the planning and building department explained the funds would be transferred to a regional housing compliance program administered by the City of Boulder to acquire, rehab and resell units with covenants preserving them as affordable to households earning up to 120% of area median income. Kleisler said preservation typically requires less subsidy than new construction and that the county is offering properties on the local market that the city and regional program can acquire.
Councilors probed the targeted AMI and prioritization. Staff said 120% AMI was the initial target for these two units because the properties are expected to be desirable and that the AMI threshold could be lowered if needed. Council asked whether the program could prioritize lower‑income households through the scoring rubric; staff said that direction is possible.
The council voted unanimously to authorize the city manager to sign the funding agreement and directed staff to work with Boulder and the regional compliance program on allocations and policies.
