Council approves adding El Monte annexation territory to District 7

Council unanimously moved to add the El Monte (Almonte) annexation area to District 7 following staff presentation that the annexation completed normal processes; roll call vote was 7–0.
The Chico City Council unanimously approved a resolution placing the Almonte/El Monte annexation territory into District 7 for the 2026 election.
Miss Preston explained the annexation had proceeded through the normal process and that the item was one of several annexations intended to remove remaining unincorporated islands; she said the city’s demographer and legal staff reviewed the placement. One prior annexation (Chico Canyon) had been protested and therefore did not proceed, she said.
Council moved and voted 7–0 to approve the resolution to add the area into District 7.
The annexation will be reflected in district lines for the 2026 election.
