Committee amends Ordinance 5996 to include agricultural parcels

Jackson County's Finance and Audit Committee voted to accept an amendment to Ordinance 5996 that inserts "agricultural" into two provisions that previously referenced only residential and commercial property.
Chair Sean Smith, who proposed the change, said the amendment alters page 2, section A and section 3.A so the ordinance reads "residential, agricultural, or commercial" where it previously listed only residential and commercial. "We're just trying to make sure we don't accidentally leave anybody behind," Smith said.
Whitney Miller of the county counselor's office confirmed the amendment was in the correct numbered format but noted "significant legal concerns about the meat of it" that would be addressed in a formal opinion. The committee approved the amendment by voice vote with no opposition; the chair said the fully corrected version will be sent to legal counsel for a full opinion before further action.
The committee did not take additional action on the underlying ordinance at the meeting.
