Bluff council advances cemetery ordinance review and contracts cemetery-mapping work

The chair said council is cleaning up a draft ordinance and will have town attorney Chris McEnany review the legal language before bringing the measure back in October. Erin Nelson reported she had spoken with references and a vendor (Century) that specializes in cemetery mapping; the vendor typically schedules an on-site survey two to three weeks after contract signing but requires the grounds be mowed for accurate location work.
Council and staff also discussed how the town would formally assume ownership of cemetery parcels from San Juan County and said Nelson will coordinate with the attorney and surveyor to outline required steps. Staff confirmed that the grant funding for the cemetery work has been received into the town’s accounts.
The council did not take a vote at the work session (procedural rules for work sessions were noted) and directed staff to return the ordinance and a mapping schedule for formal consideration at the next regular meeting.
