Board staff presented consolidations of employee policy sections and a required Internet-safety policy based on model language from the Georgia School Board Association to comply with Senate Bill 351. The presenter said the district provided the policy language to the Georgia Department of Education as required and asked the board to ratify the changes.
During discussion, a board member requested further review of one policy (GARH) at the board retreat; the motion to approve the group of policies was amended to include that review. The board approved the amended motion.
Separately, staff recommended subscribing to the Georgia School Board Association policy maintenance service to keep district policies current. The service cost was listed at $3,600 per year; the board moved and approved that purchase.
Board members emphasized they would revisit specific policy language at the retreat and that the maintenance service will help keep statutory and model-policy changes synchronized with district documents.
