The ordinance committee tabled two National Grid requests to install J‑poles to support new equipment, asking staff to arrange a meeting with the utility to discuss double poles and equipment siting before advancing the items.
The Lawrence City Ordinance Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Nov. 12 voted to table two National Grid requests to install new J‑poles to allow further coordination between the city and the utility.
A National Grid representative described the requested work as installation of new poles (one identified as pole 4113-50) to support new equipment and to improve outage response. "National Grid will be installing a new pole... This pole will be put in place to support new equipment," the representative said, explaining the work is to serve residents and improve restoration times when outages occur.
Committee members said they have been trying to schedule a meeting with National Grid to discuss double poles and equipment siting; Chair LaPlain requested a meeting within the coming week and asked the representative to include National Grid’s community engagement lead. The committee then moved to table documents 44525 and 44625 and the roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
The items are tabled pending that meeting and any follow‑up the city requests before returning to committee for action.
