The Burke County Board of Education accepted the district’s first-quarter financial report during its Oct. 21 meeting. The board’s finance presenter said total revenues as of Sept. 30, 2025, were $5,541,708 and total expenditures were $18,315,396, representing about 22.25% of the general fund budget.
The presenter told the board the district is 25% through the fiscal year and noted that spending “is in line with completion of the fiscal year,” adding that the end-of-period general fund equity as of Sept. 30 was $281,740,043 and total investments across funds were $270,549,435.88. The presenter also reviewed the purchase-order encumbrance report, which lists obligations that have been committed but not yet paid.
Board members asked specifically about a large encumbrance tied to a Yancey bus sale; the finance presenter said that line item was actually lower than budgeted. After brief discussion, a board member moved to accept the financial report and the board approved the motion by a show of hands with no objections recorded.
The board did not take other budget actions at the meeting. The finance presenter reminded members that vendor activity and purchase-order detail are included in the packet for further review.
