Council endorses advisory committee amenities list for Friendship Heights sector plan

The Friendship Heights Village Council unanimously endorsed a list of amenities recommended by the advisory committee on development and agreed to transmit the endorsement as a letter to the Montgomery County Planning Board.
Council member (speaker 6) moved that the council accept the advisory committee’s list, which the meeting record lists as a Montgomery County public library, a performing arts center, a public park (including children's play areas and a dog park), an aquatic center and a tennis complex. The motion was seconded and passed 7–0.
Resident Roger Cocheti, speaking during public comment before the endorsement, urged maximizing green space and minimizing new concrete and steel structures in the Friendship Heights sector plan area. "Every effort should be made to maximize genuine green space in Friendship Heights, and minimize the addition of new concrete and steel structures," Cocheti said, describing his remarks as a minority report from the advisory committee process.
Council members noted the sector-plan staff will publish a draft early next year (2026) and that the public will have additional opportunities to comment once the county publishes its draft recommendations.
The council's endorsement is advisory to the county planning board; the county process and subsequent drafts will determine final placements and design details.
