The Friendship Heights Village Council unanimously approved a $119,028 change order for the Red House project, bringing the contract total to $255,028.
Project manager Jim Wilson told the council architects’ detailed work revealed additional items needed to bring the building and site into compliance, including accessibility upgrades, parking-lot regrading for accessibility, extra electrical work and revised rear stairs. "When all the designs got done, there’s a change order of $119,000 to the original," Wilson said, adding he had reviewed each line item and recommended the council approve the change order.
The council considered the motion during the meeting and approved it by voice with a unanimous 7–0 vote. According to the meeting record, the seven council members present voted in favor.
Council members asked about timing and overlap with tenant work; Wilson said he expected permits to follow and estimated the work could start quickly once the change order was signed, with permit issuance anticipated in about a month or two.
The vote authorizes the additional funds to cover the newly identified scope; council did not amend the motion and provided no conditions at the time of approval. The council’s formal action removes a barrier for the Red House contractor to proceed with the expanded scope.
Next steps: Wilson said he would proceed with mobilization if the change order is signed and the permits are issued.
