Board recognizes Rising Sun Tiger Band and honors Live for Thomas Foundation
Summary
The board recognized the Rising Sun High School Tiger marching band for a regional championship and named the Live for Thomas Foundation as community partner of the month for its mental health programs and student 'hope squads.'
The Board of Education of Cecil County paused its business on Nov. 12 to recognize student achievement and community partnership.
Superintendent David Lawson introduced the Rising Sun High School Tiger marching band and staff to celebrate the band’s Tournament of Bands Chapter 9, Group 2A championship. "Congratulations to the Rising Sun Tiger Band," a presenter said as student leaders and staff were welcomed to the front of the meeting.
Lawson also introduced the Live for Thomas Foundation and its leadership, thanking the organization for mental health awareness programming, peer-led "hope squad" initiatives at Northeast High School and student outreach. "We're deeply grateful for the impactful partnership between the Live for Thomas Foundation and Cecil County Public Schools," Lawson said, noting the programs have "empowered our athletes with valuable knowledge, resilience, and support." The board acknowledged the foundation's role in fostering student mental health and peer supports.
The recognitions were scheduled early in the meeting so students and community members could attend later school events; the board then proceeded to regular business.
