Board approves bills and financial report; district finance highlights include construction payments and a food-service loss

The Brandon Valley School District 49-2 Board of Education approved bills and claims and accepted the October financial report after a staff presentation that outlined key line items and cash balances.

Mister Lundberg summarized invoices and projections, citing $17,500 in bills for activity workers within an annual activity-worker budget he described as $200,000; payments to Pescat Construction reported at $1,812,000; a Payment No. 14 reported as $15,500 (reported as presented during the meeting); and a noted upcoming Sioux Valley Energy rate increase he said could add roughly $100,000 to district costs next year. He also listed a Vision Construction payment of $473,579 and reported total bills shown at $2,921,000 with pay vouchers for November at $94,762. Food-service bills were listed at $277,977, with the district’s main food contractor, Performance Food Service, appearing on the list for about $190,009.28.

On broader fiscal measures, the district reported an investment portfolio of $21,841,418 and payroll for October of roughly $3,010,000. The food-service department showed a fully accrued loss of $96,000 at the end of October compared with $63,000 at the same time last year. Mister Lundberg characterized revenues and expenditures through the first third of the fiscal year as close to last year’s numbers and said he does not become concerned about revenue until after the first six months.

Board chair called for and received motions to approve the bills and claims and to accept the financial report; both measures passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded on the audio record. The meeting record did not specify roll-call tallies for the approvals.
