Resident urges board to back Brandon food pantry fundraiser and add stadium handrails

Lisa Marceau, a Brandon resident, used the public comment period to press the Brandon Valley School District 49-2 Board of Education to support the Brandon food pantry’s annual fundraiser and to improve stadium access for older and disabled spectators.
"As many you may know, on November 21 is the Brandon food pantry dinner, their annual fundraiser dinner," Marceau said, and urged attendees to purchase tickets or a table. She said individual tickets are $45 and a table of eight is $360 and that, beyond usual fundraising, the pantry needs "about $12,000 to sustain them." Marceau asked the board and administrators to consider purchasing tickets or otherwise donating.
Marceau also described difficulties for elderly attendees at district football games, saying her 90-year-old father uses a walker and that the stadium lacks handrails and steps in places. "A handrail is so needed... I won't want to see anybody get hurt," she said, urging the board to consider safety improvements.
Marceau provided the pantry’s mailing information (PO Box 712 and 406 Main Avenue, Brandon) and urged the public to give cash as well as food, noting the pantry can buy more with donations. The board did not take formal action during the meeting in response to the request; the public-comment remarks were noted on the record.
