Taneytown parks report: holiday events, ‘Birds & Bourbon’ profit and biennial survey plans

Taneytown Parks & Recreation staff used the Nov. 12 meeting to confirm the town's holiday programming and post-event accounting.
Staff said the Christmas tree lighting and candy-cane hunt will be Saturday, Dec. 6, with the candy-cane hunt starting at 4:30 p.m. and Santa scheduled for 5:30 p.m.; volunteers were requested to help hide candy canes. The department will begin park decorations the following week and has arranged food vendors and planned carol-singing.
The department also reported on Oct. 18's "Birds & Bourbon" event: 20 tickets were sold, two ticket-holders did not attend, and the event returned a net surplus of $65.60, leaving the $400 budget allocation unused and available for other events. "This year, we came out ahead $65.60," staff said.
Staff said the biennial community survey will be drafted from previous questions with additions, go live on the Parks & Rec Facebook page in January, and results will be discussed at the board's February meeting. The board also noted the Tales of Taneytown trunk-or-treat and other recreations programs were well attended this fall.
No formal votes were taken on programming; the department will continue to recruit volunteers and vendors for holiday events.
