Vicky Mader of Horizons Mental Health Center (Speaker 5) presented the center's quarterly update to the Reno County Board, reporting increased client demand and a significant audit adjustment tied to the agency's electronic medical-record system.
Mader said client counts rose by roughly 300 individuals from fiscal-year-quarter 24 Q4 through fiscal-year-quarter 25 Q4. She walked through service types — therapy, respite care, community psychiatric support and treatment, peer-support groups and other programs — and said the center supports crisis response across Reno County and four surrounding counties.
On finances, Mader told commissioners that Horizons finalized its FY25 audit and recorded a $4,000,000 negative adjustment that stemmed from problems with a recently adopted electronic medical-record system and use of incorrect internal reports. "We had a $4,000,000 negative adjustment to our financials," Mader said, and explained auditors recommended different reports that better reflected contractual write-offs. She added the center still ended the year with a $1,200,000 positive operating margin.
Mader said staff identified reporting problems that affected claims posting in November and December; the center made corrections in February and implemented new reporting practices. She described several operational updates, including the adult community services team moving to the Wylie Building downtown and an employment-support program that helped 54 individuals find and retain employment last fiscal year.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions; Mader said the record errors have been fixed and that Horizons expects the new reporting to prevent repeat issues. No formal action by the board resulted from the presentation.
