Reno County proclaims Community Foundation Week; Hutchinson Community Foundation outlines local grants and housing initiative

"It's fun to get proclamations," Carrie Mayo, Director of Strategy at Hutchinson Community Foundation (Speaker 7), said after accepting the document. Mayo told the board the foundation began with a $400,000 investment and has grown to roughly $130,000,000 in assets, supporting local philanthropy and nonprofits.
Mayo outlined the foundation's local programs, including the Fund for Reno County, which she said has awarded about $6,300,000 in grants over 35 years and made 48 grants totaling more than $475,000 in the past year. She also described a housing initiative the foundation plans to support with $2,460,000 in grants and loans by 2028 to assist housing nonprofits and small-scale developers.
The proclamation — read by the board at the meeting — encouraged residents to support philanthropic efforts and noted Giving Tuesday on Dec. 2. Mayo said the foundation supports roughly 75 nonprofit organizations in the county and plans to announce its 2026 grant cycles and youth-philanthropy awards in coming months.
The presentation concluded with the board signing the proclamation and the commissioners thanking Mayo for the work the foundation performs in Reno County. No formal action beyond the proclamation was recorded.
