Ysleta ISD sets Nov. 20 deadline and December interviews to fill trustee vacancy

Administration outlined a candidate interview process for filling the vacant single-member District 7 (Del Valle, Area C) seat: applicants will answer four questions in about 20 minutes and the district recommends all six board members participate in interviews. Dr. De la Torre said, "We've developed a process... reduced the number of questions down to 4 questions that the applicants ' can respond to in about a 20 minute period."
Several trustees expressed concern they had not been contacted for input on the interview framework and asked to be included. The board discussed whether interviews would be public; administration clarified the interviews will be public but the board's deliberations and scoring will occur in closed session, and only the vote will be public.
Trustee Mike Dwyer moved to set a deadline of Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025 at 2 p.m. for letters of interest, to conduct interviews at the December workshop, and to announce the appointment at the January 2026 meeting. The motion passed 5-0. Trustees asked administration to circulate the interview materials and scoring forms so all board members can participate in the evaluation process next week.
