Assistant HR director Tommy Mollos briefed the Administrative Ad Hoc Committee on Nov. 10 about cooperative-purchasing options for an executive search to fill the inspector-general vacancy and described next steps.
Mollos said staff contacted cooperative programs to compile a long list and narrowed the field to 15 executive-search firms; as of the memo submission nine firms had signaled interest. "We...narrowed it down to 15 search companies," he said, and noted which vendors had indicated interest in the memo.
Committee members discussed firm specializations and past performance. Several members raised concerns about MGT''the firm used in a prior inspector-general search''and asked staff to avoid repeating previous selection problems when producing recommendations. Chair and committee members requested a short list of roughly four or five firms to interview. Donzo Gibson of the City Manager's Office summarized committee direction: staff will exclude MGT from the 4'/5-firm shortlist, refine the list and bring recommended firms back for interviews.
Why it matters: The inspector-general search is a high-visibility hire for city governance and the committee emphasized a process that is both fast and carefully vetted. Staff said HR will evaluate candidate firms' portfolios and past performance when preparing the short list and will coordinate interviews with the committee.
Next steps: HR will return to the committee with a vetted short list (4'5 firms) and proposed interview steps. The committee did not make a final selection at the meeting.
