New commissioners introduced; mayor outlines plan to "reenergize and repurpose" borough commissions

The Economic Development Commission heard brief introductions from two new members and discussed the commission's future role during its Oct. 28 meeting.
Jennifer Wagaman, introduced herself as director of Cooperative Extension at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and said she has lived in Fairbanks for more than 30 years. Paul Rasmussen said he is an architect and developer who has been in Fairbanks for about a year and a half.
Mayor Grier Hopkins, participating remotely from a conference in California, told commissioners his office is undertaking a larger effort to "reenergize and repurpose" borough commissions. Hopkins said staff will work with commissions in the coming months to clarify each commission's purpose, seek suggestions for new directions and increase public input and partnerships with jurisdictions such as North Pole.
Commissioners agreed the Economic Development Commission could play a role in advising the mayor and assembly on priority projects and suggested future meetings include more public outreach and stakeholder presentations. The commission's next regular meeting was announced for Jan. 27.
