Charles Edmondson joins Tumwater Tree Board

Charles Edmondson was welcomed to the City of Tumwater Tree Board on Nov. 10 as the board's newest member. Edmondson told the panel he has lived in Tumwater for about four years and that his background includes work as a Lewis County noxious-weed control program coordinator and experience with native-plant nurseries and rangeland management.
"I've been living in Tumwater for about 4 years," Edmondson said, adding he has worked "invasive plant work and that kind of thing" and has spent seasons working in parks and with sequoia conservation. He said he wants to "learn more about what's possible" and help "contribute well" to local urban-forestry efforts.
Board members noted the value of Edmondson's plant- and understory-focused experience. Chair Mike Jackson and other members said they are broadening the board's scope beyond canopy to include understory and native-vegetation management. Edmondson said he looks forward to participating in planting and stewardship projects and suggested he can help on noxious-weed issues if time permits.
The board formally welcomed Edmondson; no formal vote was required for that agenda item. Staff and members encouraged him to participate in upcoming inventory, outreach and Arbor Day activities as staff move forward with the Urban Forestry Management Plan and related code updates.
