Borough clerk reminds assembly of CIP deadline and municipal election schedule

The Fairbanks North Star Borough clerk told the Assembly Committee of the Whole on Oct. 2 that the deadline for submitting recommendations for programmatic requests and capital improvement projects for 2026 is Tuesday, Oct. 7 at noon. Items submitted by that date will be included in the draft resolution the committee will consider on Oct. 16, which the committee may amend before recommending it to the full Assembly for public hearing on Nov. 13.
The clerk also reminded residents that municipal election day for the borough, City of Fairbanks and City of North Pole is Tuesday, Oct. 7; polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The clerk said early voting ended earlier on Oct. 2 and said in-person absentee voting will be available at the Bentley Mall on Friday, Oct. 3 and Monday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and at the Fairbanks and North Pole clerk's offices through Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Assemblymembers used the business-and-comments period to request follow-up: Dr. Haney asked for a staff report on how borough staff evaluate road quality and eligibility for inclusion in service areas, and Assemblymember Wilson asked staff to check whether a recent DOT road project that removed a neighborhood buffer went through local planning or partner scoping.
