The Transportation Commission moved forward on several field operations and construction items, ratifying supplemental agreements and authorizing additional contract authority.

Staff presented a Class 3 supplemental agreement No. 4 with Cook and Sons LLC for a project in Lowndes County that provides for mill and overlay and safety improvements on approximately 12 miles of Mississippi Highway 12 from MS‑50 to the Alabama state line and 0.5 miles of MS‑69; the agreement adds 43 working days for a revised contract time of 274 days with no additional cost to the contract. The commission also ratified Class 2 supplemental agreements with APAC Mississippi for an I‑20 mill and overlay project in Newton County and authorized the project engineer and district engineer to execute up to $250,000 of additional Class 1 and 2 supplemental agreements.

The commission authorized work assignment No. 8 under the geotechnical engineering services master contract with Burns Cooley Dennis to provide topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, hydraulic remediation recommendations and construction documents for erosion/landslide sites on I‑55 between Hinds and Lincoln counties; staff stated the amount will not exceed $541,278.01. The commission also approved a work assignment under the traffic engineering services master contract with Neil Shaffer, Inc., to develop signing plan sheets for replacement of horizontal curve warning signs consistent with the latest MUTCD; that work was reported not to exceed $481,813.92.

In permitting matters, the Permits and Motor Carrier division recommended issuing a certificate of public convenience and necessity to Stiles Moving LLC of Golden, Mississippi, to operate as an interstate restricted common carrier of household goods statewide after interested carriers were notified and no protests were filed. The commission received staff's recommendation and advanced the item.

Commissioner S4 offered praise for district engineers on maintenance projects that drew positive feedback from local drivers. No public protests or hearings were recorded on the carrier certificate item.
