Trustee S5 said the conversation with the Friends of the Library and trustees “is about whether we can be more strategic in how we use trust money — for programming, capital needs or an endowment-style approach.” Director S1 noted that prior mission language for legacy funds was vague after earlier fund consolidations and recommended drafting clearer guidelines to protect the fund’s intent.
The board agreed to form a subcommittee to draft a trust‑fund policy and disbursement guidelines for review at a future meeting; Chair S2 and other trustees emphasized the need for a clear mission and specific spending criteria before any large expenditures are requested from the trust.
On a related financial matter, trustees voted to allocate part of the recent bequest toward a Nook study pod — a wheeled, semi‑enclosed workstation intended for tutors and small study groups near the children’s room. Treasurer S3 moved to use the newest bequest to make the purchase; Trustee S8 seconded the motion and the board approved it after discussing fire‑code and sprinkler clearance concerns. Director S1 said the item is a discounted showroom unit that can be moved and that Friends of the Library members have expressed interest in contributing toward items like this in the future.
