Twentynine Palms adopts 2025 California building codes, including wildland-urban interface rules

The Twentynine Palms City Council adopted an ordinance updating the municipal code to align with the 2025 editions of the California Building Codes (California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Parts 1'12). Staff told the council the state mandated adoption of the 2025 code cycle effective July 1, 2024, and that the local amendments proposed are consistent with prior cycles; the residential code will not be amended again until 2031.
The ordinance adoption (Resolution No. 25-22) passed by a 5-0 vote. Council confirmed the local amendments will reflect local geologic, topographic and climatic conditions and that staff had reviewed the proposed amendments for consistency with prior cycles. There were no public speakers on the item and no substantive changes requested by council.
The adoption brings Twentynine Palms into parity with statewide construction and safety standards, including the newly added wildland-urban interface code intended to address fire risk in vulnerable areas.
