Superintendent evaluation notes progress; district posts strong MCAS math scores and wins $14,000 cap-planning grant
Summary
The evaluation subcommittee recommended "proficient" ratings for the interim superintendent's progress on four standards; the district also reported MCAS results above state averages in several subjects and acceptance of a $14,000 state cap-planning grant to develop a 6–12 college-and-career scope and sequence.
The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Committee received the formative evaluation for the interim superintendent and heard district assessment results and a small state grant at its Nov. 12 meeting.
The evaluation subcommittee reviewed written evidence and recommended that the superintendent is progressing toward or meeting goals across four standards, including professional practice, management and operations, family and community engagement, and professional culture. Subcommittee members described the binder of evidence as "the most thorough" they had seen, and one member said, "Dr. Stuckey has done a great job." The committee will finalize signatures and present a draft to the full committee.
Terry Fleming presented 2025 MCAS results and highlighted areas of relative strength: "Grade 3, in particular, was 18% above the state in meeting and exceeding expectations," Fleming said, and biology results were "29% above the state". Fleming also noted that eighth-grade students scored 13% above the state in the inaugural civics assessment. She cautioned that writing scores fell statewide by more than 6 percent.
Fleming also reported the district was approved to receive $14,000 in state cap-planning and implementation funds to create a 6–12 scope and sequence for college-and-career planning; the grant will pay for staff release time, substitutes, marketing, external-development time, and curriculum development work.
The superintendent and subcommittee said the formative assessment and accompanying rubric will be used as part of a cycle that includes a summative evaluation in March. No employment action was taken at the meeting.
