Zephyrhills CRA raises residential matching grant to $10,000, confirms park shelter and Oakside schedule

At the Nov. 10 CRA session the board voted to increase multiple incentive grant amounts aimed at encouraging downtown investment and homeownership. Gail Hamilton (CRA) proposed raising the homeowner incentive and adjusting the matching commercial facade and commercial improvement grant caps. Council amended the residential matching facade grant and set the residential incentive increase from $5,000 to $10,000; staff confirmed available grant funding of approximately $200,000 and indicated the grants are matching, awarded while funds last.
The CRA also reviewed park project schedules: shelter permits were submitted for most parks and equipment installation is scheduled to start in December; Oakside Cemetery improvements will kick off with Wharton Smith on Nov. 19 and construction is expected to begin in January. Staff said signage value engineering reduced costs and allowed illuminated signage without additional appropriation.
The board directed staff to begin outreach and education to lenders and realtors about the revised grant levels, to coordinate grant administration with the commercial review committee, and to monitor fund balance as grants are awarded.
