Ocean View Personnel Commission approves routine personnel items, sends staff to regional HR conference on ADA accommodations

Miss Walden, presiding commissioner of the Ocean View Personnel Commission, opened the October meeting and the commission approved several routine personnel actions before authorizing staff to attend a regional HR conference.

Dr. Jensen, a district staff member, told the commission that the 2025 Personnel Testing Council of Southern California (PTCSC) conference — which typically draws about 100 attendees — will include a major focus on ADA and workplace accommodations. "They have a big focus this time on, ADA, right, and accommodations for for, worker workplace accommodations that we deal with often within the district," Dr. Jensen said, and added that he and Human Resources Administrator Lorena Aceves planned to attend to bring back best practices.

The commission handled routine business first. A motion to approve the regular meeting minutes was made and seconded; the body recorded the vote as 2 yes, 0 no, with 1 abstention. The consent calendar — which included eligibility lists, classified activity lists previously approved by the board, recruitment updates and advanced step placement notifications — passed on a separate unanimous vote, 3-0.

On the PTCSC attendance item the commission moved and approved staff participation, with the motion passing 3-0. The conference authorization was presented as professional development to help district staff manage increasingly complex accommodation needs for employees returning from leave.

The meeting concluded without additional action on policy matters. The commission’s next scheduled meeting is Nov. 13.
