Chairperson Lenwin read biographical remarks about both students, noting Telles attended Morningside Elementary, Walton Intermediate and Bonsai Grande High School and was remembered for kindness and a love of art, and that Torres attended Heritage and Simmons elementary schools and First Intermediate School and was active in after-school programs. "They will be greatly missed," Lenwin said before calling a moment of silence.
The board offered condolences to the families. No formal actions related to the deaths were taken at the meeting; trustees said staff would follow through on any needed supports for affected schools and families.
The meeting then moved to scheduled recognitions and business items.
