The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners accepted a $500 tax-claim repository bid for a parcel on Walter Street in Union Township and rejected a second bid for a Newcastle parcel after the city reported code violations.

At the Nov. 12 special meeting, the commissioners reviewed two repository bids included in the tax claim office packet. The first, for parcel 34231200 in Union Township, was submitted by 2mgt, LLC for $500. Staff said the Union Township supervisors previously accepted the bid on Sept. 18; no response from the Union Area School District was recorded. The board voted to accept the bid.

The second bid, for Newcastle parcel 05-069400, was a $500 bid from Mansoor Realty LLC. Commissioners said the Newcastle City Council rejected the bid on Oct. 24, noting “better house code violations” on the city’s paperwork. Because the tax claim office had not received a response from the New Castlereagh (school) board, the matter was brought to the county, and commissioners voted to reject the bid consistent with the city’s finding.

Both motions passed on roll call. Commissioners indicated these actions were routine steps in the tax-claim process and that city and school-district responses were considered before final county action.

The board moved on to other business after recording the outcomes.
