Dr. Glass said the engagement process surfaced four consistent themes: a need to rebuild governance culture and civility; a strong community commitment to the arts and environmental stewardship; attention to student pathways and increased student voice; and a desire to balance innovation with student well-being.
As a practical step, Dr. Glass proposed creating a local accountability dashboard that would report measures the community values beyond test scores, such as arts participation and experiential learning. He said the district must sequence priorities so that "if everything is a priority, then nothing is." Dr. Glass also flagged a potential bond renewal: combined with capital transfers, the district could generate nearly $90 million for school improvements if the board chooses to put a renewal to voters.
Board members and student representatives welcomed the report. Questions focused on how student voice would be elevated, how the proposed dashboard would align with the state LCAP framework, and next steps for translating themes into an actionable strategic plan. Dr. Glass said staff would refine priorities with the community and use the LCAP structure as the planning vehicle.
The superintendent's report will inform curriculum priorities, facility planning and future board deliberations; staff said follow-up items, including governance workshop scheduling and dashboard development, would be brought back to the board.
