Summary
The Harrisonburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority asked council to authorize purchase/renovation of 227 N. Main; council tabled that resolution and requested a concept plan. Council approved HRHA resolutions to pursue senior and affordable units at Bluestone Town Center.
Representatives of the Harrisonburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority (HRHA) presented two separate requests Nov. 12. Michael Wong described a plan to purchase and renovate 227 N. Main Street into mixed‑use housing and commercial space; Wong said the acquisition would support renovation of an adjacent senior housing property by giving HRHA relocation options during construction.
Council asked for a concept plan and more detail on tenant relocation and safety measures. After discussion, council moved and voted to table the 227 N. Main resolution to the next meeting and asked HRHA to return with a Glensville Place concept plan showing proposed office space and residential layouts.
Separately, HRHA requested authorization for two Bluestone Town Center subprojects: one to construct 62 residential units for the elderly and another to build 83 residential units. Council moved and approved a resolution authorizing the senior and affordable housing developments at Bluestone Town Center.
Council recorded the tabling of the 227 N. Main resolution and the approval of the Bluestone Town Center resolution during the meeting; staff and HRHA said they will return with required documentation and concept plans as requested.
