Carson City signs MOA with federal partners to advance Ash Canyon Trailhead project

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement on Sept. 24 that formalizes responsibilities among Federal Highways, the U.S. Forest Service and Carson City for the Ash Canyon and Trailhead project.
Casey Sylvester said the project was shortlisted following a scoping process and the Central Federal Lands body approved the project for advancement. Under the MOA, federal agencies will perform the bulk of design and advertising work on federal lands while Carson City staff will provide local oversight and input.
Sylvester said the federal partners accounted for fuel escalation and inflation in project calculations, which increased the available funding but did not materially expand project scope; staff described the change as preserving the project’s ability to move forward without reductions.
Commissioner Maloney moved to approve the MOA and authorize the transportation manager to execute it; the commission voted unanimously in favor. Staff will continue to coordinate with federal partners on design milestones and community impacts.
