Carson City RTC authorizes purchase of two transit buses and 10% contingency

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission on Sept. 24 unanimously approved authority to purchase two replacement buses identified in the city’s approved transit asset management plan and authorized the transportation manager to approve up to a 10% contingency.
Marcus Myers, the city’s transit coordinator, told the commission the two vehicles were identified in the asset plan and that there is sufficient funding in the transit vehicle purchase account. He said the current quote specifies a 20-to-24-month window before production begins and that once production starts a vehicle rolls off the assembly line in about 10 days.
Myers noted that Carson City does not currently operate Gillig buses but that neighboring Tahoe Transportation District does and that the vendor’s product has been well regarded. Commissioners asked about delivery timing and the procurement; staff confirmed funding was available and recommended authorization to proceed.
Commissioner Dodson moved to authorize the purchase and contingency; the motion was seconded and the commission voted unanimously in favor.
The commission did not specify the procurement contract amount beyond the figure in the agenda packet; staff said the funds are available in the transit vehicle purchase account and the motion included authorization for the transportation manager to approve the contingency if needed.
