Tulsa council sends hotel tax code change and 0.7¢ sales-tax proposal back to committee for more study

Council discussion cited timing and public engagement as the principal concerns. One councilor noted that the lodging tax is a visitor tax and suggested engagement on that item differs from the sales-tax discussion. Staff clarified that an effective date listed in the draft ordinance (for example, July 1) could be shifted to a later election date if desired, but councilors said they preferred more committee-level review before advancing the measures.
The council agreed the two items would return to committee for further consideration, with discussion expected to resume in January. No votes to forward those items to second reading occurred at this meeting.
