At the Nov. 12 meeting the York County Planning Commission agreed to form two small committees to handle near‑term workload: a comprehensive plan committee to review parcel changes and a proposed comp‑plan amendment related to recent boundary changes, and an ordinance amendment committee to examine requested changes and items raised by staff.
Staff asked for volunteers and several commissioners agreed to serve. Commissioners discussed scheduling and, while some members were unavailable the week of Thanksgiving, the group tentatively identified a meeting the Monday before Thanksgiving and settled on an 11 a.m. one‑hour slot for the initial session; staff will circulate handouts in advance.
In staff reports the planning division described recent Board approvals and upcoming applications. "The highlights I'll give you, Riverside Heating and the Little GI Joe's, both of those were approved at the Board of Supervisors in October," staff said. The division also said Lafayette Gun Club has submitted a special‑use permit application for an indoor firing range and that a Redstone proposal includes a rezoning and special‑use permit for a site at the Fort Eustis Boulevard and Route 17 intersection; Publix is planned behind that area, staff added. Staff said a data‑center text amendment will be postponed until next year, and that a text amendment on threat‑deterrent/barbed wire will come to the commission in December for review. The division reported the beachfront boardwalk had a land‑disturbing permit issued Oct. 30 and that construction is expected to begin soon.
Staff also introduced Desi Bradstich as the new principal planner and noted the division’s schedule for next year would be distributed to commissioners.
No formal action was taken on those upcoming applications at the Nov. 12 meeting; they were listed for future hearings and reviews.
