Waller County opens new courthouse with ribbon cutting; historical society donates 1870 courthouse print

WALLER COUNTY, Texas — Commissioners and county officials marked the first formal meeting in the new Waller County courthouse with a ribbon-cutting and photograph before opening regular business on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Judge (speaker 1) led the brief ceremony, calling the building “the house of the people in Waller County,” and invited elected officials and department heads to join a group photo on the dais before the meeting began. The ceremony was followed by the invocation and pledges and the court’s approval of the meeting agenda.
Later in the docket, a representative of the Waller County Historical Society presented a framed historic photograph of the 1870 courthouse and other archival images for display in the courthouse and the judge’s office. The society member described several prints and artifacts chosen to “represent the county in the history.” After brief comments of appreciation from the bench, the court moved to accept the print donation and voted to accept it.
The new courthouse also includes display cases on the second floor that will rotate artifacts periodically, officials said, and county staff thanked volunteers and contractors who helped prepare exhibits on a short timeline.
The court finished the meeting by withdrawing several late items, adjourning, and inviting attendees to cake in the public conference room to commemorate the courthouse opening.
