Doral council approves Seniors IT Academy pilot to expand cybersecurity outreach

The City Council on Thursday approved a pilot program called the Doral Seniors IT Academy to expand digital-inclusion and cybersecurity education for older residents.
Councilman Pinedo said the academy builds on the citys first senior cybersecurity seminar and would include recurring seminars, workshops and a certificate of completion presented by the city. "This program will include not only seminars, workshops, and I'm suggesting a certificate of completion that will be actually presented by the city to our seniors," he said, describing the initiative as an expansion of earlier efforts with the Police Department and the Silver Club.
City Manager said the IT director, Eileen Fernandez, has already compiled materials following the initial seminar and staff plan to broaden topics. The motion, moved by Councilwoman Reynoso and seconded by Councilwoman Porras, passed by roll call vote. Council directed the city manager to coordinate implementation and host the next senior cybersecurity seminar during the upcoming holiday season.
